Mechanical Design II
ME371
The final project in this class was quite hands-on and required the creation of an oscillating engine, transferring the input shaft’s rotation to an output shaft rotated 90 degrees to it. The class itself was great, and I had a good experience learning the specifics of designing and 3D printing gears. They obviously exhibit signs of wear quickly, but one can end up with a surprisingly solid result for just 3D printing. I loved the bolt plus embedded nut design I found common in online designs in order to attach our gears to the shafts. This project also taught me more about how to utilize assemblies in CAD software, particularly the ability to simulate them and do some force/stress/impulse analysis.
